Seema Khan

Research assistant, University of Otago

picture1I work for the Southern Lakes Group as a research assistant (casual contract) where I analyse sediment samples for cladoceran remains and also prepare sediments and tissues sample for stable isotope and molecular analysis. I am being supervised by Dr. Marc Schallenberg and Sami Khan. I enjoy playing with Daphnia and don’t get tired enumerating their remains (such as post-abdominal claws and ephippia) in the sediments of Lake Hayes and Lake Johnson. The oldest Daphnia remains that I have enumerated are from the 1600’s. They are quite amazing and smart organisms!
